Baskaran’s The Message Bearers (1981) a pioneering work in freedom struggle in India. His book The Eye of the Serpent (1997) on South Indian cinema won the Golden Lotus award from the president in 1997. His book on wildlife The Dance of the Sarus: (OUP) was published in 1999. His latest work is The Book of Indian Dogs (Aleph 2020). He writes in Tamil, on nature and cinema. His latest is கையிலிரà¯à®•à¯à®•à¯à®®à¯ பூமி ( The Residual Earth) 2019. For his Tamil writings he got Iyal virudhu award from Canada Literary Garden in 2014. He lives in Bangalore.
