With over two decades of contributions to Kannada literature and journalism, Sumangala is a distinguished voice in contemporary storytelling. Her works span short stories, novels, creative translations, biographies, and musicology. She is the author of acclaimed story collections like Hannondane Addaraste, Kalittalli Kaaludari, and the novel Agedashtu Nakshatra — all of which have received prestigious literary awards, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award and Infosys Foundation Award.
Her literary translations include Sebastian & Sons by T.M. Krishna and Voices from Chernobyl by Nobel Laureate Svetlana Alexievich. Her deep interest in Indian classical music has led to notable works such as Sangeetha Loka Drishti and the biography of sarod maestro Pandit Dr. Rajeev Taranath.
Beyond writing, she has published over 100 feature articles in leading Kannada publications and currently serves as a Project Associate at EkStep Foundation, working in the space of social impact and learning.
