
Gogu Shyamala
“Shyamala is one of the foremost contemporary Dalit writers in India, as an author, Editor, Co-Editor, researcher, and biographer.
She holds a Ph.D. in Life Stories of Dalit Women in Telangana in the Department of Social Exclusion, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Her collection of short stories, Father Maybe an Elephant and Mother Only a Small Basket but… is a landmark in Indian literature; it has also been translated into German and some stories into the French language. She wrote a biography of a woman who was Dalit among Dalit, a scavenging caste, but had a highly educational political profile, the first cabinet minister of Endowment. Shyamala has participated in the World Conference against Racism held in Durban, in the Australian Indian Literary Fest, and in the German literary workshop at Jaipur International Fest. She received several awards. Some of the writings were taken as syllabus in higher education for Telangana state and other states for higher education, and also in other countries. Her writings were translated into Indian languages, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali.
She worked as a Senior Research Fellow at Anveshi Hyderabad from 1999 to 2020, and she pursued as a resident fellow for 2020-21 at Dalit Puranas folklore storytelling art farm at Nantes, France. She presented Papers at some national and international conferences.”
