K V Subrahmanyam

K.V. Subrahmanyam, from Vagat Agrahara in Bengaluru Rural district (born 18 December 1949), is a distinguished writer and critic deeply engaged with the history and criticism of visual arts in Karnataka. For over four decades, he has written extensively in major Kannada journals and newspapers, offering thoughtful critiques and insights on modern and contemporary art.

His notable books include Karnatakada Aadhunika Shilpakale (1994), Kannada Shilpakaleya Samakaaleena Drushya (2007), K. Venkatappa: Punaralokana, and Installation Kala Prapancha. His works illuminate the evolution and relevance of Karnataka’s art traditions while exploring the global currents of visual culture.

Over the years, he has been honoured with several prestigious awards: the Karnataka Lalithakala Akademi Honorary Award (1999), Fellowship from United Writers’ Association of India, Chennai (2004), Subhadra Kumari Chauhan Centenary Samman, Haryana (2004), Lifetime Achievement Award from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat (2014), and others including the Drushyabhushana Award from Ideal Fine Arts, Kalaburagi, and the Kaladhyana Award from Bengaluru Art Foundation.
