Shailaja Venugopal

Dr. Shailaja is a writer, translator, and academic known for her work in women’s studies, Dalit studies, and Indian classical music. Born in Gundlupet in 1958, she taught English for several decades before retiring from Government First Grade College, Nanjangud. She holds a PhD from Kuvempu University on the cultural politics of the feminist movement and Dalit women’s identity. Her translations include works by D.D. Kosambi, R.S. Sharma, and Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya. She has authored essays, a study on Buddhist women (Therigatha Kaanisida Hennu), and co-written a book on Mallikarjun Mansur. Through the Raagamaala series, she has spotlighted music legends, and she currently writes for BookBrahma and edits the Tillana magazine.
