S. Kayal is a Tamil writer, poet, translator, and academic. She has published six poetry collections and translated three short story collections into Tamil. Her Tamil translation of Nobel laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah's novel Afterlives, titled Porozhindha Vaazhvu (2024), received the prestigious Pollachi Naa. Mahalingam Award for Translation. Her translation of Nermin Yıldırım's Secrets Dreamed in Istanbul, published as Istanbullin Ragasiyak Kanavugal (2025), was honoured with the Arachelvar Seenu Chellappa Award for Translation. Two more translated works are forthcoming. Holding multiple postgraduate and doctoral qualifications, Dr. Kayal has over 27 years of experience in higher education. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce at Muthurangam Government Arts College, Vellore, where she combines her academic career with a distinguished contribution to Tamil literature and translation.
