S. A. Vengada Soupraya Nayagar is a distinguished academic, trilingual writer, and literary translator from Puducherry. A pioneer of direct French–Tamil translation, he has translated the works of renowned authors such as Albert Camus, J.M.G. Le Clézio, and Tahar Ben Jelloun, while also translating classical Tamil Sangam literature into French. Formerly the Head of the Department of French at the Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Puducherry, he holds a Ph.D. in French from Pondicherry University. His contributions have earned him the Romain Rolland Book Prize (2021), the Sparrow Literary Award (2020), and international recognition, including literary residencies and participation in major literary events in France. After retirement, he continues to dedicate himself to literary translation and mentoring aspiring translators.
