Indira Balan is a distinguished Malayalam author, poet, essayist, biographer, and cultural leader based in Bengaluru. She is the daughter of the legendary Kathakali maestro and teacher Vazhenkada Kunju Nair and Lakshmikutty Amma, a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.   Holding a Master's degree in Malayalam, she has authored more than twelve books spanning poetry, short stories, essays, and biographies. Her literary and cultural contributions extend beyond writing, having served as the founding President of Bengaluru Sargadhara, former President of the Writers and Artists Forum, and Chief Editor of Sarthakam News. She has also been a columnist for Kerala Bhushanam daily. A prominent advocate for women's creative and cultural empowerment, she serves as Chairperson of Dhvani, a women's platform, and has held key leadership roles in several literary and cultural organizations. Her works have received numerous literary awards, and she has twice represented Malayalam at the Akhila Bharatha Sahitya Parishad. Through her writing and cultural leadership, she continues to make a lasting contribution to Malayalam literature and the literary life of Karnataka.
