Poovithal Umesh is a Tamil poet, writer, translator, and grammarian who writes in both Tamil and English. Born in Navalai village, Dharmapuri district, Tamil Nadu, his works are known for their lyrical style, emotional depth, and exploration of Tamil identity, ecology, political consciousness, and nostalgia. His poems have been translated into several languages, and he has authored seven poetry collections, more than ten children's books, and a widely acclaimed book on Tamil grammar. He has received numerous literary honours, including the Veral Poetry Award, Thinaigal Poetry Award, and Piramil Poetry Award (Sri Lanka), establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Tamil literature.
