Shilpa Kalyan is an academic, media educator, and researcher, currently serving as the Head of the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at MAHE Bengaluru. With over two decades of experience in Media and Mass Communication, she has played a pivotal role in establishing and strengthening media, humanities, and social sciences programmes at leading institutions.

A recognized expert in media literacy, journalism, and communication studies, Dr. Kalyan is the South India Lead for the Global Journalism Trauma Literacy Project (JETREG). She is a UNESCO Top Scholar Award recipient for her research on Trauma Literacy and has served as a trainer with the Google News Initiative India Training Network and BBC Young Reporter India, conducting workshops on media literacy, digital verification, and journalism for students and media professionals.

Her research focuses on Trauma Literacy, Artificial Intelligence, and Communication Technologies, with publications in leading international journals. Through her academic leadership, research, and public engagement, Dr. Shilpa Kalyan continues to contribute significantly to media education and contemporary communication studies.
