M. Bairegowda is a folk scholar, playwright, singer, poet, organiser, publisher, and book promoter. Born in Krishnapura, Ramanagara Taluk, he holds a Ph.D. in Folklore Studies. He has contributed to folklore research, theatre, poetry, and literature, and has acted in more than 50 plays. He has also showcased his talent through Yakshagana and solo performances.

He has received several honours, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Karnataka Nataka Academy Award, and G. Narayana Janapada Loka Award. He has performed music and theatre both in India and abroad and has served as a Kannada professor for several years. As a publisher, he has published more than 860 books, making a significant contribution to Kannada literature and folk culture.
