Laxmi Murthy is a journalist and researcher based in Bangalore. She has
worked in senior editorial positions at the Women’s Feature Service, Himal
Southasian and the International Federation of Journalists. She has specialist
expertise in the areas of press freedom; gender and media; journalists’ rights and
conflict reporting. Laxmi has worked with feminist publishing house, Zubaan Books,
New Delhi on research on sexual violence an impunity, and initiatives on feminist
archiving.

Laxmi is one of the founder-members of the Network of Women in Media, India, a
forum for women media professionals across India. She is also co-founder editor of
the Free Speech Collective, a platform for journalists and free speech advocates to
protect and promote the right to free speech and expression.
