Laxmi Murthy is a journalist and researcher based in Bangalore. She hasworked in senior editorial positions at the Women’s Feature Service, HimalSouthasian and the International Federation of Journalists. She has specialistexpertise in the areas of press freedom; gender and media; journalists’ rights andconflict reporting. Laxmi has worked with feminist publishing house, Zubaan Books,New Delhi on research on sexual violence an impunity, and initiatives on feministarchiving.

Laxmi is one of the founder-members of the Network of Women in Media, India, aforum for women media professionals across India. She is also co-founder editor ofthe Free Speech Collective, a platform for journalists and free speech advocates toprotect and promote the right to free speech and expression.
