Basavaraj Kalgudi explores culture and the changes in its movement from different viewpoints holistically. Born in Belgaum, Basavaraja Kalgudi had his primary, secondary, high school and college education in Bengaluru. He embarked on his profession at Kannada Adhyayana Kendra of Bangalore University, where he served as a lecturer for 30 years.   He is the recipient of Ph.D for the research thesis called ‘Anuhbava mattu saamskrutika samasyegalu”. His another research work includes “Mahasati Aacharane” which was written after conducting fieldwork about Mastikallu of Karnataka. Apart from this, his significant published works include Nakshe Nakshatra, Bendreyavara Kaavya, Karnataka Sangaati (comp), Bahuroopi (comp), Aadhunika Kannada Kathaa Saahitya (comp), Vichaara Saahitya (comp). Kalgudi has explored Vachana Literature through various disciplines of knowledge which has been considered as unique in the world of Kannada Critics.   Awards and accolades: Shambaa Adhyayana Mandali Award, Karnataka Saahitya Academy Award ( Criticism), G S S Vishwastha mandali Award, G S S (Mysore) peetha Award, Dr. H N Award, Buddha Poornima goutama Award.
