Akshara K. V. is a distinguished Kannada theatre practitioner, director, teacher, author, and publisher, widely recognized for his outstanding contributions to Kannada theatre and cultural discourse. Educated in literature at Sagara, he received professional theatre training at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and earned a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts from the Workshop Theatre, University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

He has been closely associated with the Ninasam group of organizations as a theatre teacher, director, and administrator, playing a pivotal role in shaping generations of theatre practitioners and enriching Karnataka’s cultural landscape. He also heads Akshara Prakashana, one of the most prominent publishing houses in Kannada.

Akshara K. V. has written and directed numerous Kannada plays, taught theatre extensively, and presented papers at various national and international seminars. He has authored more than fifteen books on drama, theatre, cinema, culture, and society, and has translated significant essays and books from English into Kannada. His literary and theatrical contributions have earned him several prestigious honours, including three Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Awards and the Karnataka Nataka Akademi Fellowship.
