“Hailing from the village of Perumchilamb in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, the author was born as the eighth child of Thathrampally Muhammad and Zainaba. He received his early education at the Arasu Nadu Nilai School in his native village, completing studies up to the 8th grade. At the age of 14, he relocated to Kottakkal in Malappuram district – the homeland of his parents – where he began a new chapter of his life.
Despite having no formal training in the language, he taught himself to read and write in Malayalam, driven by a deep love for expression and storytelling. His life was marked by hard work and resilience, having taken up various jobs including hotel worker, lottery seller, tapping laborer, and finally settling into the trade of painting, which he has pursued for over two decades.
The richness of his life experiences deeply informs his writing. He is the author of nearly ten books, noted for their raw, emotional, and socially conscious themes. Notable works include Vishappu, Pranayam, Unmaadam (Hunger, Love, Madness), Aathmavinu Bhranthiyum Maranavum Naduvil, Abuvinte Jaalakangal, and Anas Ahammedinte Kumbasaram. His writing often navigates the thin lines between sanity and madness, desire and despair, life and death.
His celebrated book Vishappu, Pranayam, Unmaadam was translated into Tamil under the title Pasi, Kaadhal, Piththu, expanding his readership across linguistic borders.
Grounded in lived experience and emotional truth, his works reflect a voice that is at once personal and universally resonant – a powerful testament to survival, love, and the human condition.”
