K P Rao

“K P Rao is widely recognized as the Father of Indian Language Computing His original name is Kinnikambala Padmanabha Rao Known for his pioneering work in computing, he received his technical training at the Tata Institute of Atomic Research and pursued postgraduate studies in Computer Engineering at Purdue University, USA

After his academic pursuits, he worked with the Tata Institute and the Homi Bhabha Centre, later joining Monotype Corporation in Bangalore Post-retirement, he served as a professor in the Printing Technology department at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) He also worked as a consultant for QuarkXPress and Adobe Systems, and served as an honorary professor at various IITs across India

Beyond his technical and academic achievements, K P Rao has climbed the Himalayas 15 times, and his vast knowledge spans across numerous fields—from the Vedas to atomic science, from journalism to music, and from languages to computing—making him a truly remarkable polymath”
