
“L. Subathra, residing in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, works with the School Education Department. She holds an M.Phil. in English Literature and has been an avid reader since childhood. For the past six years, she has been actively engaged in literary translation. Her published translations include four books-two novels and two short story collections. These are: Paathi Iravu Kadandhuvittadhu (the Tamil translation of Half the Night is Gone by Amitabha Bakshi, a DSC Prize winner), Athu Unathu Ragasiyam Mattumalla (a collection of 10 short stories by various authors), Aayan (translation of Milkman by Anna Burns, a Booker Prize winner), and Eriyum Samaveli (translation of The Plain in Flames by Juan Rulfo).
Apart from these books, she has translated numerous articles, interviews, and stories-spanning genres and eras-which have appeared in both print and digital magazines. She has also actively participated in and presented papers at esteemed literary events such as Unnatham (headed by writer Gowthama Sidharthan), Vishnupuram (by writer B. Jeyamohan), and Puravi (by writer Ba. Venkatesan). Subathra continues to pursue her passion for translation, aiming to bring diverse literary voices and new trends from across the globe into Tamil literature.”
