BK Shivaram is a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch (CCB). After completing his B.Sc from Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya College, Bangalore, he joined the Karnataka Police Department as a Sub Inspector in 1977. After that, he worked as a sub-inspector in various police stations in Bangalore and also served as a vigilance inspector in the Karnataka High Court. He has also worked in the organized crime prevention department.
B.K. Shivaram received ‘President’s Gallantry Award’ by A.P.G Abdul Kalam for his duty and service in 2007; ‘President’s Police Gold Medal’ award in 2001 by K.R. Narayan; Chief Minister’s Gold Medal from Ramakrishna Hegde in 1985.
He is also involved in sports and cultural organizations like Karnataka State Volleyball Association, Youngsters Kabbadi Club, Kodandarampur Malleshwar, Kadumalleswar peer groups. He took voluntary retirement in 2008 and wrote a column every Sunday for 150 consecutive weeks in the popular Kannada daily Prajavani which has been published in book form. And this work is getting ready for its ninth edition. The entire honorarium from this book and column has been earmarked for the education of the underprivileged children of the Western Ghats.
