Manjamma Jogati is a Jogati dancer, a folk-dance form of North Karnataka, and a Kannada theatre actress and singer. In 2019, she became the first trans woman to become the president of Karnataka Folk Academy, the state’s apex body of folk arts. In January 2021, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri award for her contribution to the field of folk art. Manjamma Jogati’s autobiography ‘Naduve Suliva Hennu‘ has been beautifully narrated by author Arun Jolada Kudligi. Her life story is included in the syllabus of Karnataka Folk University and Karnataka State Women’s University for graduate students.
