Perumal Murugan, a writer, scholar and literary chronicler, is celebrated for his contributions to Tamizh literature and academic research, enriches the literary landscape with his profound understanding of the Kongunadu region. 12 novels in his kitty, six collections of each, short stories and poems, and 13 books on language and literature… Thiruchengodu, Mayam, Neer Vilaiyattu, Pūkkul̲Ii are some examples of the rich legacy Murugan has created.
The English translation of Murugan’s novel Madhorubhagan, by Aniruddhan Vasudevan ‘One Part Woman’, got him the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize. He is also the recipient of Fakir Mohan National Literary Award, from Fakir Mohan University; the English translation of Murugan’s novel “Pūkkul̲i“, or “Pyre“, by Aniruddhan Vasudevan, had been longlisted for the International Booker Prize; Murugan’s novel ‘Fire Bird’ has won the JCB Prize.
