Sukumaran Chaligadha, whose real name is Bethimaran, writes poetry and short stories in Malayalam and Rawla languages, mostly depicting the lives of tribal people. He has also written screenplays and songs. He is from the small village of Chaligadda, Wayanad, near the Kuruva island and Kabani river. Some of his famous works are Kalyanachoru, Meenukalude Prasava Muri, Mazhabhaasha, Kaadu.
He has been writing for the last two decades and has edited a collection of tribal poetry published by DC Books. Besides being a writer, he has also worked as an actor in films and theatre.
