Surya Gopal is an 18-year-old singer, songwriter and pianist. Next year he will be attending Brown University in the United States to study Music and American History. Surya’s debut musical, The Children of the Swamp, premiered at Newton North High School this May, and the story is inspired by The 86th Village. The Children of the Swamp combines elements of American music including folk, gospel, rock and blues to tell the story of a small town in Georgia struggling with an impending flood. Surya has been music director for several productions and composed 100+ songs, many of which have been performed in various venues in the United States.
