BB Ashok Kumar is a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police. Originally from Paraane village in Kodagu, Ashok joined the Karnataka State Police Service in 1977. Ashok, who was one of the key officers in the Kadugalla Veerappan case, reportedly killed 13 of Veerappan’s associates as part of a special task force of the Karnataka Police. He retired from service on 31 July 2012 and today faces constant life threats from the criminal underworld due to an old grudge against his career. He has received the President of India’s gold medal three times and the Chief Minister’s gold medal of Karnataka once for his loyalty and sense of duty in his profession. Also, Ashok was given the title of ‘Tiger’ by the Home Minister in 1984. His professional life experience stories have got him name and fame after they were made into major feature films, namely, Deadlysoma, Circle Inspector and Maina. He has also written two books titled ‘Tiger Memories’ and ‘Bullet Savari‘.
